@Samia: Yorkies generally have straight hair if it is left to grow long. The weight of long hair keeps it straight. When short, however, the hair tends to take on a wavey characteristic. I have my yorkie, Coco, trimmed every 2½ to 3 months during the warm weather. During the winter I let it grow out a bit, the weather also seems to have some effect on the shine and thickness of the hair. When the hair is short a good combing should suffice. My little man enjoys this one-on-one time.

Alice,

Yorkies are definitely NOT cold weather dogs. PLEASE bundle up your yorkie as much as comfortably possible. My yorkies start to shiver instantly when they go out in the winter.

Needless to say, bathroom breaks and walks in the neighborhood are quick that time of year.

Do you know anything about taking Yorkies out in cold weather? I live in NYC and I'm afraid my Yorkie won't be able to handle the winters. I dress her up in layers and layers of clothing.
